38th Steelbird Helmet Nehru Sub-Junior Hockey: Naval Tata Academy Corner Glory

Naval Tata Academy, Jamshedpur packed in more firepower to edge out Ritu Rani Hockey Academy, Patiala by the odd goal in three to win the 38th Steelbird Helmet Nehru Sub-Junior Boys Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium in New Delhi.

The Naval Tata Academy lads did not take too long to settle down and went ahead with a Bikram Soreng strike in the 7th minute. However, the joy of taking an early lead did not last long as Ritu Rani Hockey Academy levelled the issue two minutes later when Sunil fire home a penalty corner. Naval Tata Academy regained the lead in the second quarter via Jolen Topno as they went into the half-time break with a slender lead.

The winners received a cash prize of Rs 160,00 while the runners-up team received a cash reward of Rs 96,000. The coaches of winning and runners-up teams received cash awards of Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. Harsh Sharma of Ritu Rani Hockey Academy, Patiala received the Best Player of the Tournament award. Municipal High School Panposh, Odisha received the Fair Play Trophy instituted in the fond memory of Hockey Legend and Founder Father of JNHTS KG Kakar.
