Naval Tata Academy, Jamshedpur did not really have to dig into their reserves as they scripted a facile 4-1 win over Government Boys Senior Secondary School Ghumanhera to storm into the final of 38th Steelbird Helmet Nehru Sub-Junior Boys Hockey Tournament being played at the Shivaji Stadium in New Delhi.
The Naval Tata lads, coached by Manish Kumar, struck an early short corner goal via Tushar Parmar and led half-time with that solitary goal. Tushar Parmar got into the goal-scoring act again in the second half this scoring a field goal to press home the advantage before Satyam Pandey made the scoreline 3-0. The Ghumanhera side, coached by former international and current Indian Oil player Bharat Chhikara, showed signs of mounting a comeback converting a penalty stroke. But it was always going to be a tall with only seven minutes as they trailed 1-3 and Naval TaTa added more as Tushar Parmar completed a fine-hat-trick.
Naval Tata Academy, Jamshedpur will face Ritu Rani Hockey Academy, Patiala, who pipped Directorate General- NCC 4-3 in a shootout after both teams were locked 1-1 in regulation time. The final would be played on Sunday at 2:30 pm and would be telecast live on DD Sports channel.
