About Hockey Passion
India men’s team enjoys a rich legacy in hockey – the haul of 13 Olympic gold medals (8 gold, 1 silver, & 4 bronze medals), 3 World Cup medals (1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze) 17 Asian Games medals (5 gold, 9 silver, 3 bronze medals), 3 Commonwealth Games medals (3 silver medals) bears testimony to how the national team towered has over the sports over many decades ever since it made its Olympic debut in the 1928 edition at Amsterdam. Six gold medals win on the trot (1928-1956) underpin our dominance. The country’s dominance steadily dipped from the late sixties, with the national side often settling finishes outside the top 6. Indian hockey received a much-needed shot in the arm with the national men’s team bagging an Olympic bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics after a hiatus of 41 years. Even our women’s team made everyone sit up and take notice of with a creditable 4th place finish at Tokyo. Our men’s team literally made an announcement that they are a potent hockey force on the world stage. And they enhanced that reputation with back-to-back Olympic bronze medals at the 2004 edition in Paris – making them a strong contender for a ‘beyond a bronze medal’ finish at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
