Punjab National Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank Remain Firm Favourites Ahead of Surjit Hockey Semis

The 38th Surjit Hockey Tournament has reached its business end with the semifinal drawn after the conclusion of the quarterfinal league staged that featured as many as twelve teams. Defending champions Punjab & Sind Bank are looking good to retain the crown they won in 2019 as they broke little sweat in their final league tie against BSF and now lock horns in the semifinals against 2017 champions Punjab Police, who topped Pool B. Pool A toppers and 2016 champions Punjab National Bank will rub shoulders with 2015 champions Indian Railways, who topped Pool D.

The prospect of a new Surjit Hockey Tournament champion is nipped in the bud after all four former champions made it to the semifinals. Going by current form, Punjab National Bank and Punjab & Sind Bank have looked impressive and have exuded strong comeback skills in the quarterfinal league phase. This is not to undermine the prospects of Punjab Police and Indian Railways, who have fared well to reach the semifinals. An exciting dose of hockey awaits hockey fans in Jallandhar in the semifinals on Saturday and in the final to be played on Sunday.
