Pro Hockey League Campaign Awaits India in February 2022

The Indian men’s hockey team will kickstart their campaign in the third edition of the FIH Pro Hockey League against New Zealand on February 5, 2022 – the Blueshirts will rub shoulders with the Black Sticks in their second tie on the very next day – February 6.  India next faces Australia in back-to-back games on February 12 and 13, 2020, followed by clashes against Spain on February 26 and 27, 2022.

After a playing total of six games in the month of February, the Blueshirts take on Germany in back-to-back games on March 12 and 13, 2022, followed by matches against Argentina on March 19 and 20 respectively. India will play England on April 2 and 3.  After a break in the month of May, India will resume action in June as they lock horns with Olympic champions Belgium on June 11 and 12. They will round off their engagements with matches against the Netherlands on June 18 and 19 respectively.

It may be recalled that India had finished 4th in the 2nd edition of the FIH Pro Hockey League (2020-21), which was won by Belgium. India had given the inaugural FIH Pro Hockey League a miss in 2019, which was won by Australia. India dished out a pretty robust performance in the in the 2nd edition of the FIH Pro Hockey League (2020-21). They got the better of the Netherlands 5-2 in their first tie before going to again pip them 3-1 in a shootout after both teams were tied 4-4 in normal time. India beat Belgium 2-1 and subsequently lost to the Red Lions 2-3. The Blueshirts had narrowly lost to Australia 3-4 and subsequently defeated them 3-1 in a shootout after both teams were locked 2-2 in regulation time. India edged out Argentina 3-2 in a shootout after both teams were locked 2-2 in regulation time and subsequently beat them 3-0. India’s matches against Great Britain, Germany, Spain, and New Zealand were cancelled owing to outbreak of Covid-19.
