It has been a truly incredible run for the young Champions Training Centre (CTC) team that cornered glory in the 2022 Mumbai Hockey Championship at the MHA Stadium in Mumbai. The Siddharth Pandey-coached CTC side have towered over the tournament, outplaying most sides en route to laying their hands on the winners’ trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000.

Champions Training Centre having the likes of internationals Affan Yousuf and Devinder Walmiki in their ranks, brought their fighting qualities to the fore in the final after they were pushed on the backfoot by an early Union Bank goal via Vijender Singh. The CTC lads ensured the goal-scoring joy of the bankmen was short-lived as they scored almost immediately through Devrath Hiray as both teams took the half-time break at 1-1.

Champions Training Centre produced the crucial breakthrough in the closing stages of the third quarter with persevering Manpreet Singh rattling the Union Bank cage. Earlier, CTC had acounted for Union Bank 3-2 in the league tie. Union Bank received a cash prize of Rs 15,000 and the runners-up trophy.

CTC have been in supreme form in the pool phase – they kickstarted their campaign with a 7-0 decimation of Republican Sports Club and subsquently eased past Central Railway 4-1. The CTC lads whipped Abhi Foundation 4-1 before accounting for Union Bank 3-2 before the law of averages caught up with them as they were nosed out by Mumbai Customs 3-4 in their last league tie.
