Stats Talk: Fernando Ferrara as Argentina Women’s Team Coach
Fernando Ferrara took charge of the Argentina women’s hockey team from the start of the 2022 after his former national team-mate Carlos Retegui was let go in late 2021 by the Argentine Hockey Confederation despite the Las Leonas winning a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. A three-time Olympian, the 56-year-old former ace striker was the joint top goal-scorer at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics alongside Netherlands’ Floris Bovelander.
Ferrara scored five goals in Argentina’s 7-3 win over Egypt at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and also scored a hat-trick against Malaysia in that Olympics. Under Ferrara as coach, the Argentinian eves won the 2021-22 Pro League ahead of the redoubtable Netherlands and had finished runners-up at the 2022 World Cup.
