Sreejesh Attains Personal Milestone of 250 International Appearances
‘The Wall’ of India men’s hockey team – PR Sreejesh – achieved a personal milestone during the second leg Pro League tie against Spain – the seasoned Indian goalkeeper appeared in his 250th international – a phenomenal feat for a man, who made his international debut at the 2006 SAF Games in Colombo.

The ace shot-stopper from Kerala was part of the historic 2021 Tokyo Olympics bronze-winning team. He also scaled several highs for the national team – the most prominent being part of the 2014 Asian Games gold-winning team, 2011 Asian Champions Trophy gold-winning team, 2016 Asian Champions Trophy gold-winning team, 2018 Asian Champions Trophy gold-winning team, 2018 Champions Trophy silver-winning team, 2016 Champions Trophy bronze-winning team, 2014 Champions Trophy bronze-winning team, 2014 Commonwealth silver-winning team and 2013 Asia Cup silver-winning team.

Besides the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, Sreejesh also featured in the 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics. The seasoned campaigner also played in the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups. Sreejesh had made his 200th international appearance during India’s 3-1 win over Pakistan in the 2018 Asian Champions Trophy. He had made his 100th international appearance in India’s 3-0 win over South Korea in a classification tie at the 2014 World Cup.

Sreejesh had served as an understudy to goalkeepers like Bharat Chetri, Adrian D’Souza and Baljit Singh in his initial years before emerging as a regular member of the national side since 201. He showcased his penalty shoot-out heroics in the 2014 Asian Games final where India had pipped arch-rivals Pakistan – the same opponents against whom he stole the thunder in the 2011 Asian Champions Trophy final at Ordos.
