Salima Tete replaced goalkeeper Savita Punia as the Indian women’s hockey team captain during the Antwerp leg of the 2023-24 Pro League – it was also coach Harendra Singh’s first match in his second stint as national coach – her debut was not a great one as India lost 0-5 to world number two Argentina. Under Salim’s captaincy, Indian hockey eves lost all straight games at the 2023-24 Pro League but subsequently won seven straight games at the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy en route to cornering glory at Rajgir.
