Netherlands Junior Eves Show Germany Who is the Boss

Netherlands lived up to their billing, humbling Germany 3-1 to win the Junior Women’s World Cup for the fourth time. The invinicibility of the Dutch was never in doubt as they clobbered a whopping 38 goals in their three Pool A games against the USA, Canada and Zimbabwe. The Dave Smolenaars-coached Netherlands outfit did not relent in the quaterfinal stage as they whipped hosts South Africa 5-0. The only time the Dutch appeared to be challenged was in the semifinal against India when the Blueskirts dominated the opening quarter before running out of steam.

Danique Van Der Veerdonk made the most of a penalty corner to put the Netherlands ahead just before the conclusion of the opening quarter and they held on to the slender lead at half-time. SCHWABE Sophia Schwabe brought Germany back into the contest with an equalising goal in the early stages of the second half. However, Tessa Beetsa nipped whatever hopes Germany had harboured of mounting a serious comeback in the bud by scoring twice in a span of ten minutes to take the game and the crown away from the Danas.

This was Germany’s first final appearance in 16 years since the 2005 edition at Santiago, where they had lost to South Korea 0-1 in the title tilt.
