Meet the Winning Coaches of Men’s Hockey India League
Former Australian men’s hockey team coach and former Kookaburras stalwart Colin Batch has become the fourth foreign coach to guide a franchise to glory in the Men’s Hockey India League. South African Gregg Clark (former Indian assistant coach) was the first foreign coach to guide a a franchise to triumph in the inaugural HIL in 2013.
Former Indian men’s team chief coach Cedric D’ Souza became the first ‘desi’ coach to guide a franchise to glory in the 2014 HIL. Indian women’s hockey team chief coach Harendra Singh was in the hot seat when Ranchi Rays won the 2015 HIL crown.
Barry Dancer was the first Australian coach to win the HIL crown in 2016 with Jaypee Punjab Warriors. Current Kookaburras coach Mark Hager won the 2017 HIL with Kalinga Lancers and Colin Batch has capped off a hat-trick of Aussie coaches winning the HIL title after Dancer and Hager.
