Wearing the national jersey is of course, a big thing for hockey players but it is the club hockey exploits that pave their way into the national fold and subsequently, a flourishing international career. Netherlands Hockey League more popularly known as Hoofdklasse is perhaps the most competitive hockey league in the world – established in 1973, the Dutch hockey league brings the best of hockey to the fore. Kampong won the 2023-24 Hoofdklasse beating Rotterdam in the two-leg final. Germany’s hockey league called Bundesliga is another competitive league established in 1937. Mannheimer HC won the 2023-24 Bundesliga pipping Hamburger Polo Club 2-0 in a shootout after being locked 2-2 in regulation time.

Finally, the Hockey India League was born in 2013 was revived after six years. Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers won the 2024-25 edition beating Hyderabad Toofans 4-3 in the final. The Tigers boast of Indian strikers Sukhjeet Singh and Abhishek and Jugraj Singh as well formidable foreign players in Sam Lane, Gauthier Boccard, Sebastian Dockier, Florent Van Aubel, Tim Cross, Jamie Carr, Hayden Beltz and Sean Findlay.
