Indian Army Red Clinch 68th Inter-Services Hockey Tournament

Indian Army Red toppled reigning champions Indian Navy 4-3 to win the 68th Inter-Services Hockey Tournament at the Astroturf Hockey Ground, Jalandhar Cantonement. The final contest was evenly poised with Indian Navy -– a semfinalist of the 57th Senior Nehru Hockey Tournament at Hyderabad – taking a first-half lead through Selvaraj. Indian Army Red brought the contest on an even kneel, scoring via Rahul in the second half. The match headed into a shootout after both teams were locked 1-1 in regulation time.

It was Indian Army Red, who had the last laugh in the shootout 3-1 to win by an overall 4-3 to corner glory. It was also a sweet revenge for Indian Army Red, who had lost to Indian Navy 3-5 in the last edition final held in 2019 at in December 2019 at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala. Indian Air Force thumped Indian Army Green 4-0 to finish third in the tournament.

The Inter-Services Hockey Tournament is being revived after a three-year gap owing to Covid-19 as the 67th edition was held in December 2019. The four-day tourney got underway on March 31.
