Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh has now become the country’s third highest all-time goal scorer when he scored twice in their fighting 4-5 loss to Australia at the MATE Stadium in Adelaide. The ace fullback broke Rupinder Pal Singh’s feat of 125 goals scoring India’s opening goal. Interestingly, Harmanpreet has scored 127 goals from from 164 internationals, while Rupinder has scored 125 goals from 223 internationals.
The proficient deep defender has had a stellar 2022 amassing 39goals so far. He had emerged as the top goal-scorer of the 2021-22 FIH Pro League with 18 goals to his tally – the Punjab Da Puttar also finished as the second highest goal-scorer at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

It may be worth recalling that Harmanpreet had equalled four-time Olympian and four-time World-Cupper Dhanraj Pillay’s record of 121 internationals goals when he scored India’s second goal against Spain in the second-leg Pro League tie at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar, 121 goals from 159 internationals.
