Harmanpreet Singh Becomes India’s 3rd Highest Goal-Scorer, Breaks Rupinder Pal Singh’s Record of 125 Goals

Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh has now become the country’s third highest all-time goal scorer when he scored twice in their fighting 4-5 loss to Australia at the MATE Stadium in Adelaide. The ace fullback broke Rupinder Pal Singh’s feat of 125 goals scoring India’s opening goal. Interestingly, Harmanpreet has scored 127 goals from from 164 internationals, while Rupinder has scored 125 goals from 223 internationals.

The proficient deep defender has had a stellar 2022 amassing 39goals so far. He had emerged as the top goal-scorer of the 2021-22 FIH Pro League with 18 goals to his tally – the Punjab Da Puttar also finished as the second highest goal-scorer at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.

The sizzling form of Harmanpreet Singh was a key factor in the Indian men finishing third in the 2021-22 FIH Pro League – his meaningful contributions in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games went a long way in the Blueshirts bagging a silver medal, which got buried under large-scale attention generated by our 0-7 final loss to Australia.
