Harmanpreet Becomes First Indian & 11th Player to Score 200 International Goals

Harmanpreet Singh has become the first Indian men’s hockey player and 11th overall to attain the milestone of scoring 200 international goals. Playing in his 233rd international match in the semifinal of the 2024 Asian Champions Trophy against South Korea at Hulunbuir, the Indian captain achieved this magnificent feat.

The 28-year-old deep defender, who is employed with Punjab Police (earlier he was employed with BPCL), is only the second player from Asia to be in the 200-international goals club – Pakistan’s Sohail Abbas interestingly, tops the goal-scoring charts with 274 goals. Besides Abbas, Harmanpreet is now only behind Paul Litjens, Jamie Dwyer, Greg Nicol, Jorgi Lombi, Bjorg Michael, Floris Jan Bovelander, Taeke Taekema, Tuen de Nooijer, and Gonzallo Peillat.

It may be worth recalling that Harmanpreet had achieved his 150th international goal milestone at the 2023 Asian Champions Trophy match against Malaysia at Chennai. He had made his senior international debut against Japan during a four Test series played at Bhubaneshwar in May 2015 and took over the captaincy reins from Manpreet Singh.
