Greg Nicol’s Win-Loss Record as New Zealand Men’s Hockey Team Coach

Greg Nicol took charge of the New Zealand men’s hockey team in late 2021 – he took over the reins from Darren Smith, after the Black Sticks’ hugely disappointing performance at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, where they finished second-last in their pool.

A two-time Olympian, Nicol had served South African hockey with distinction – he scored an impressive 244 goals off 200 internationals for the African nation. A familiar face in the New Zealand hockey set-up, Nicol had earlier served Black Sticks’ assistant coach at the 2016 Rio Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He had also served as assistant coach of the Black Sticks women’s team at the at the 2012 London Olympics, where they reached the semifinals and went down fighting to the Netherlands in the semifinals in a shootout.
