Frederique Matla Becomes 4th Dutch Player to Score 100 International Goals
The start of the 2024-25 edition of the women’s Pro League could not have been more auspicious for ace Netherlands striker Frederique Matla. The 27-year-old attacking mainstay of the Dutch women’s side capped a personal milestone in their campaign opener against Germany at the Santiago del Estero Hockey Club, Santiago del Estero Province in Argentina. She became only the fourth Dutch female player to score 100 international goals – she scored a dazzling brace to play her part in Netherlands’ impressive 6-1 win over Germany.
Matla first shot into prominence at the 2016 Junior World Cup at Santiago, emerging as the top goal-scorer (12 goals) even as the Dutch picked up a silver medal in the marquee event. Matla, who plays club hockey for Den Bosch, made her senior international debut in 2017 in a Test match against England at London.
She now joins the illustrious club of Paumen Maartje, Fieke Boekhorst, and Kim Lammers. With 100 goals from 140 internationals and with age on her side, one can expect Matla to add more goals to her tally in coming times.
