SAI Academy, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy Make Right Noises in 2nd Junior Women Academy Nationals

Reigning champions SAI Academy showcased a rich vein of form en route to securing their quarterfinal passage in the 2nd Hockey India Junior Women Academy National Championship at Gwalior. The SAI girls have towered over Pool A posting ridiculously one-sided wins over Bhai Behlo Hockey Academy Bhagta, Ghumanhera Riser’s Academy, Smart Hockey Academy, Raipur, and SGPC Hockey Academy. SAI Academy pulverised Smart Hockey Academy, Raipur 18-0, swamped Bhai Behlo Hockey Academy Bhagta 10-0, trounced Ghumanhera Riser’s Academy 8-0 and collected full points after their opponent SGPC Hockey Academy forefeited their match. The SAI girls pumped in as many as 36 goals from three matches. Ghumanhera Riser’s Academy are the other team to reach the quarterfinals from Pool A.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (MPHA) have also made the right noises and stormed into the quarterfinal stage winning all their games in Pool B. The MPHA girls drubbed Jai Bharat Hockey Academy and RoundGlass Punjab Hockey Club Academy by identical 6-0 margins – they received walkovers from Malwa Hockey Academy Hanumangarh, and Thirumalvalavan Hockey Academy. Jai Bharat Hockey Academy also entered the last-eight stage from Pool B.

Meanwhile, Salute Hockey Academy along with Mumbai Schools Sports Association have made it to the quarterfinals from Pool C. Raja Karan Hockey Academy and Berar Hockey Academy (Vidarbha) Amravati have made the cut from Pool D.

It may be worth recalling that SAI Academy has prevailed over Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 2-1 in the final. The inaugural edition was organised by Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre (ONTHHPC) based in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar. Odisha Naval Tata Hockey High Performance Centre had finished third after easing past Khalsa Hockey Academy by 5-1 in the third-fourth place play-off tie.
