Savitribai Phule Pune University Win SNBP 28th Nehru All-India University Hockey

Scoring early goals invariably offers an advantage to a team and Savitribai Phule Pune University understood the importance of it wresting the initiative as early as the 2nd minute via in-form Taleb Shah as the Pune Varsity lads set the tempo for the match from there on to outwit Sambalpur University, Sambalpur, 3-0 to win the SNBP 28th Nehru All-India Inter-University Hockey Tournament (Inter-Zonal Final) at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar, Pimpri, Pune.

The Sambalpur University lads were not allowed to mount a comeback as Prajwal Moharkar pressed home the advantage to ensure they had their noses in front at half-time. It was left to Taleb Shah to score his 10th goal of the tournament in the final minute of play as the Pune Varsity lads emerged triumphant.

Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal (VBSP) University, Jaunpur finished third after nailing a 4-2 win over Lovely Professional University, Phagwara.
