Muhammad Razie Abdul Rahim has been an integral part of the Malaysian men’s hockey team deep defence – the fullback who also doubles as a penalty corner specialist – has had a quiet start to the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup even as the Speedy Tigers struggled to find their moorings in their first two games against South Korea and Pakistan.

Touted as a prolific goal-scorer over the years, the 35-year-old finally came into his own in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup, firing a sizzling hat-trick in their 7-2 win over South Africa and backed it up with a brace in their 4-2 win over Japan – it was his 300th international appearance for Razie and he choose to celebrate in style scoring two crucial goals in a game where the hosts needed a draw to romp into the final.

Razie, who made his senior international debut way back in 2006, had featured in the 2010 and 2018 Asian Games as well as in the 2017 and 2022 Asia Cups. Razie is now Malaysia’s fifth most capped men’s hockey player behind Kumar Subramaniam (321 caps), Mirnawan Nawawi (327 caps), Noor Saiful Zaini (329 caps), late Chua Boon Huat (337 caps), and Kuhan Shanmughnathan (341 caps).
