2nd Junior Women Academy Nationals Witnesses a Flurry of Forfeiting of Matches!

Holding nationals for any sport can be a tough ask for the organisers. And when teams initially confirm their participation before the start of the tournament only not to turn up and forfeit their games, it doesn’t makes the job of the organisers any easier or paint a good picture of the nationals. The ongoing 2nd Hockey India Junior Women Academy National Championship held at Gwalior witnessed a plethora of forefeiting by teams that failed to show up after initially confirming their particiaption in the tournament.

Obviously it can’t be the organiser’s fault that teams are making the practice of forfeiting matches a regular feature in the ongoing 2nd Hockey India Junior Women Academy National Championship. As many as eighteen matches were forfeited in the ongoing nationals. To delve deep, four games were forfeited in Pool A, six games were forfeited in Pool B, four games were forfeited in Pool C, and four games were forfeited in Pool D.

SGPC Hockey Academy forfeited all their four leagues games in Pool A. Malwa Hockey Academy Hanumangarh, and Thirumalvalavan Hockey Academy forfeited three games each in Pool B. Mumbai Schools Sports Association and HIM Academy forfeited two games each in Pool C, while Khalsa Hockey Academy (Amritsar), HAR Hockey Academy forfeited two games each in Pool D.

The forfeiting of matches not only takes away the competitive element of the nationals in some way, but also does not augur well for the overall health of domestic hockey.
