SNBP 28th Nehru Varsity Hockey: Bangalore University, Sambhalpur University Reach Quarterfinals
In a contest that went right down to the wire, Bangalore University, Bangalore outduelled Lovely Professional University, Phagwara 6-5 to sneak into the quarterfinals of the SNBP 28th Nehru All-India Inter-University Hockey Tournament (Inter-Zonal Final) at the Major Dhyan Chand Hockey Stadium, Nehrunagar, Pimpri, Pune. Bangalore University, Bangalore would meet Savitribai Phule University, Pune in the quarterfinals.
The win enabled Bangalore Varsity lads to top Pool D as well as show the tournament exit door to defending champions Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi, who were tied with 4 points alongside Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, who finished second in Pool D on better goal average despite the loss, and advanced to the last-eight stage. The Phagwara outfit will now lock horns with Pool C toppers Punjabi University, Patiala in the quarterfinals. Punjabi University, Patiala topped Pool C after winning their third tie on the bounce, chalking up a 6-1 win over Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi.

Sambhalpur University, Sambhalpur marched into the quarterfinals in style after walloping Parul University, Vadodara 11-1 to top Pool B and would face Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in the quarterfinals. Pool A toppers Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University, (VBSP), Jaunpur will take on Bangalore City University, Bengaluru in the quarterfinals.
