Preparations Afoot to Conduct 1st Chhaju Ram Memorial Hockey Tournament
The Indian domestic hockey circuit witnessed a high dose of exhilarating hockey in three premier domestic tourneys – Surjit Hockey Tournament, Lal Bahadur Shastri Hockey Tournament, and Senior Nehru Hockey Tourney. The domestic hockey caravan now moves to New Delhi, where the first-ever Chhaju Ram Memorial Hockey Tournament will be held at the Government Boys Senior Secondary School School Astroturf, Ghuman Hera at Najafgarh from December 4-9. The tournament is being organized by Matiala MLA Gulab Singh.
According to Baljeet Singh, who is managing the smooth conduct of the tournament, as many as eight teams are participating in the six-day meet. Participating teams included Petroleum Sports Promotion Board, Services, South Central Railway, Central Railway, Punjab National Bank, Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy, Bhopal and Sillu Hockey Academy, Rohtak.
The organizers have informed that four matches will be held each day with the last match of the day to be played under floodlights. The semifinals will be played on December 8 and the final will be held on December 9.
The winners of the 1st Chhaju Ram Memorial Hockey Tournament will take home a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh while the runners-up team will receive a cash reward of Rs 3 lakh. The third-placed and fourth-placed teams will pocket cash prizes of Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1.50 lakh respectively.
