After Early Exit of Defending Champions Punjab, 2021 Runners-Up Uttar Pradesh Bow Out in Quarterfinals of Senior Nationals

Last year’s runners-up Uttar Pradesh Hockey was surprisingly ousted from the 12th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship being played at Bhopal. The Uttar Pradesh lads, who had lost to Hockey Punjab 2-1 in a shootout after being goalless in regulation time at the 2021 Senior Nationals at Pune, this time around failed to make it even to the semifinals of the 2022 edition. The 12th Hockey India Senior Men National Championship has now witnessed the exits of defending champions Hockey Punjab in the Pool stage and Uttar Pradesh Hockey in the quarterfinal stage. The Uttar Pradesh lads lost to Hockey Unit Of Tamil Nadu 1-3 in the quarterfinal.

Meanwhile, last year’s semfinalists Hockey Karnataka and Hockey Maharastra reached the semifinals after prevailing over Hockey Bengal and Hockey Jharkhand. Hockey Karnataka scored a thrilling 4-3 win over the Bengal lads, while the boys from Maharastra got the better of Jharkhand 2-1 in a shootout after both teams were locked 2-2 in regulation time. Hockey Haryana eased past Hockey Delhi 3-0 to enter the last-four stage.

Last year’s third-placed team – Hockey Karnataka will face Hockey Unit Of Tamil Nadu in all-southern region semifinal clash, while last year’s third-placed team – Hockey Maharashtra would take on Hockey Haryana.
