Dilpreet’s Hat-Trick: 6th Instance of Indian Scoring Hat-Trick in Asian Champions Trophy
Dilpreet scored a fabulous hat-trick in India’s 9-0 drubbing of hosts Bangladesh in the 6th Men’s Asian Champions Trophy at the Maulana Bhasani Hockey Stadium in Dhaka. Interestingly, this was Dilpreet’s second hat-trick in the Asian Champions Trophy – he had scored his first hat-trick in India’s 11-0 mauling of Oman in the 2018 Asian Champions Trophy at Muscat. This is the sixth instance of an Indian scoring a hat-trick in the Asian Champions Trophy.
Akashdeep Singh was the first Indian to score a hat-trick in the Asian Champions Trophy in India’s 6-0 win over Oman in a 5-6th place classification tie in the 2013 edition at Kakamigahara. Rupinder Pal Singh scored a double-hat-trick in India’s 10-2 win over Japan in the 2016 edition at Singapore. Mandeep Singh and Harmanpreet Singh had also scored hat-tricks in India’s 9-0 and 4-1 wins over Japan and South Korea in the 2018 edition at Muscat.
